Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) brings exciting DHTML/AJAX and dynamic Flash applications to the desktop. Come to this session and hear from Romke and Nate, two energetic Flash platform developers that have created Flex and AIR apps, speak about AIR, Flex, and how it applies in an academic setting. This session will start with an overview of the AIR capabilities and speak to its potential for academic uses. It continues with demoing sample code for some of AIR's core feature set, and will touch on some advanced topics including mashups, tips on security, and what to watch out for when creating Javascript-based applications. Audience members are advised to have familiarity with Actionscript 3 and/or Flex MXML knowledge.

Nate Frank
Senior Presentation Layer Developer, Razorfish

Nate finished his BFA at UW-Milwaukee and started as an interactive developer at Hanson Dodge Creative in Milwaukee. Later he went back to UWM to teach an interactive workshop course before becoming manager of interactive production at Hanson Dodge. Nate currently works as a senior presentation layer developer focused on Flash platform and other interactive media.

Romke de Haan
Senior Presentation Layer Developer, Razorfish

Romke has managed interactive development at Fullhouse Inc., been on the advisory board at MATC, and been an partner of a firm. He's reached out to the community through Homeboyz Interactive, Latino Community Center and is most recently working on starting another program to promote technology and creative jobs for youth in the community. Romke currently works as a senior presentation layer developer for Razorfish Chicago where he specializes in Flash Platform technologies as well as Web and iPhone development.
