But you're not sure how to incorporate it into your development or business processes. What's the return on investment? How often should you test a system? At what stages of the development process? What if you don't have much time and money to invest? Is there such a thing as low-budget testing that still gives worthwhile information? Who should conduct the tests? What kind of expertise do they need? How many people should you test?

These and many other questions will be addressed using expert research and writing on the topic as well as information gathered through first-hand experience usability testing systems for the Registrar's Office at the University of Texas at Austin.

Presenter

Dana Vance
Senior Systems Analyst, The University of Texas at Austin

I have worked as a systems analyst for UT's Student Information Systems group for approximately seven years. Before becoming a Web developer, I trained in psychology, obtaining a master's in counseling psychology in 2000. My continued interest in cognitive psychology and growing interest in human-computer interaction translated to a focus on usability and accessibility. Most recently, I worked with our Student Information Systems group to incorporate usability testing into the maintenance cycle of our legacy SIS systems.
