WordPress MU: Simple Content Management

Web editing at Lafayette College is now easy. Simple. Efficient. But, before this year that was not the case. Updating a website required learning Dreamweaver in tandem with downloading and uploading files via FTP. Because editing happened so infrequently, users often forgot the process and were forced to re-learn it every time they wanted to make a change.

Enter WordPress MU. After much evaluation and a remarkably successful pilot there was simply no turning back. WordPress MU offered almost all of the features we were looking for in a site editor: ease-of-use; LDAP authentication; multi-site hosting; templating and extensibility options; and a proven content management system built around a large community and developer base. This poster session will describe our WordPress MU pilot that included course sites, personal sites, and student organization sites; our collaboration with our Public Information Office to create a Lafayette themed WordPress template; our implementation timeline; and a description of our WordPress installations including domain naming conventions, themes, and plugins used.
